DEI™

In order to reflect the best environmental information regarding our products, we have developed DITEC Environmental Index.

DEI™ is a revolutionary environmental index that takes aquatic life, ecological and environmental effects, health and personal protection, biodegradability and toxicity in calculation in order to reflect the environmental properties of each product. DEI™ is developed to determine the actual environmental impact of products. DEI™ is a composite index and has a value between 0 and 100. Zero (0) represents " DO NOT USE". A value of 100 on the index represents a completely safe product for users, environment, aquatic life and application areas.

For calculation of DEI™ many factors are considered in the algorithm. More weight is added to personal, environmental and aquatic safety than biodegradability or whether a component is naturally available or extracted from natural sources. By doing so we avoid misinformation and misunderstanding in conjunction with safety and environmental evaluation of the chemicals.

For example, "Arsenic" is a natural element and included in periodic table. In addition Arsenic is not biodegradable. However, the fact that this element has a natural occurrence doesn't make it environmental and "green" for consumers. On the other hand, Arsenic is not considered "non-environmental due to its lack of biodegradability. Arsenic is plain simple extremely poisonous!

Another natural and "biodegradable" element is Uranium. It should be safe to assume that no one considers Uranium being environmental and safe, because it is natural and "eventually" degrades.

Therefor when evaluating DEI for a surfactant such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/SLS/SLES, (used in almost everything you have in your home from hair shampoo and body gel to your cleaning supplies), we add more weight on the dangers caused by using this surfactant in shampoos, soaps, detergents and cleaners than its biodegradability or the fact that it is derived from organic plants. Another example is Chlorine or Bleach.

When we evaluate bleach it is not the biodegradable properties that should weigh into the index. It is (among others) the negative effects of dioxins created due to biodegradation of bleach that should have a greater impact. Because dioxins are harmful and they "bio-accumulated" in our bodies and in nature.
